Ferries from Beaufort, NC to Hatteras, NC

Well today was a real treat! We took not just one, but TWO ferry rides! Dad was tired of driving the coast roads where you can't see anything anyway, so Mom convinced him to take the ferry from Cedar Island to Ocracoke, a two and a half hour ride, and then the short ride from Ocracoke to Hatteras. Quite a savings in time and driving, and with gas prices the way they are, we even saved money on the ferry! Here we are waiting in line to get on.

And here we are following another rig onto the ferry.

As you can see, the ferry is big enough for us and lots of cars. That's us in the picture.

Dad liked the ferries so much he said he's now thinking of Bar Harbor, Maine to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia!

We have a great campground here at Hatteras, with a view of the sunset over the dunes. Tomorrow after a nice long walk on the beach we will go down and see the lighthouse at Hatteras and do some shopping. Then the day after we plan to go up to Kitty Hawk and Roanoke Island where some of the first settlers landed.

Did they have dogs?

Suzie
