Harborfest 2006 - Norfolk, VA
We had an easy trip up from Hatteras to Norfolk and cousin Linda's. Friday the kids were in school and Dan was working, so we went into Norfolk to the Nauticus Museum and discovered that the annual Harborfest was going on, so we stayed and watched the parade of tall ships (here are a few):
This one is the Bluenose II, built in Lunenberg, Nova Scotia. It may be a sister ship of the one sister Lori will be sailing in this summer.

Today, Saturday, we all went up to the Maritime Museum in Norfolk and saw all the ship models showing the history of maritime and naval development.

We may go back tonight to Harborfest for the fireworks. They scare me, though, so I will probably stay home with Bruce!

Wow! A tallship parade!! Awesome! I looked them all up, and the one at the top is the USS Eagle, the Coast Guard's training ship. The next is the Bluenose II out of Novia Scotia, but no, she is not the sister ship to the Seamans. She is an old Schooner from the glory days of the Grand Banks fisheries. And the one at the bottom is called the Kalmar Nyckel, a full-rigged ship out of Delaware. Way cool!
